One Loop Plus Some on Duathlon Course

I went out to the location of the duathlon I am eyeballing.  I did one loop on the bike course.  In the race you complete 3 loops.  Right in the beginning there is a killer (to me anyway) hill.  I did make it up, but you can see by comparing the elevation and my speed how difficult it was for me.  I made it, though, and the 3rd and 4th miles do help with recovering from the hills in the first 2 miles.  I feel I could have done it again, barely, but we were running out of time, so I just did a casual ride through the park, avoiding large hills. :-)  Here’s the info just for the course loop portion:

Just to throw another issue into the mix, I recently learned I will have an art opening near St Louis (4 hours away) the Friday before this duathlon, returning the night before the race.  So, I could do the duathlon, or perhaps I could stay in St Louis and extra night and have some fun.  Hmmm….

Hmmm… is right! I say stay the extra night in St. Louis! (but i might be a bad influence! ) :) Actually, I would hate to see you go into your first dualathon already exhausted from the night before. Are there any other dualathons coming up in the future? Good luck whatever you decide!

I’m leaning towards a 2nd night in St. Louis! I’ve never been there, and if we come back after one night, then because of my opening we really will only have ~4 hours to explore. Plus, I just don’t have a decent bike for this purpose, nor do I have the cash to buy a new one right now. So, I am thinking about looking for another one, though duathlons aren’t as ubiquitous as 5k’s, unfortunately.

There’s a duathlon locally you might be interested in… look up The Dirty Duo!
