Digg! this story.
So, I have in fact continued working out. Still not as much as in the winter and spring, and not as much as I’d like to, but perhaps 2-3 runs a week and some strength training. Also had a cycle or two in the somewhere. I am really busy, and not quite into a regular schedule. However, I just don’t have time to blog my workouts like I used to. I like to put in every item… the run, the cardio, the strength, the stretching… but it takes so long for each entry! I do wonder if I took the time to log everything, if it would help me be more consistent like I used to be, but at the same time perhaps it will be fine to leave out all the logging for now and get back to it maybe for the fall. Once I find my groove in this new schedule, I’d like to set a new race goal… hopefully another 10K but this time in nice chilly weather!
‘Till then, I apologize if this blog is dormant. I just don’t feel like only logging here and there, especially because I do keep track of the running and cycling at bimactive.com. If you’d like to see what’s occupying me in the meantime, check out my regularly updated art blog.
P.S. I do peek in on sweat365 quite regularly to see what you all are up to! Hi there!

Digg! this story.
It’s been a tough few weeks!
I went to NYC. I didn’t get to run in Central Park, and I didn’t actually workout otherwise because it cost $ to use the hotel’s gym. However, I did a CRAP TON of walking. My last run had been the day before we flew out.
I got back home and did a 2.5 mile run in the heat, and promptly caught a cold. The last 2 times I had a cold, I went ahead and ran while it was just in my throat and I could still breathe, and both times I wound up with it in my chest. So, I feel like maybe I should just rest this thing out… however, I did feel a bit better today after eating a nice big dinner and some ice cream (feels good on the throat!) so decided to go for a walk. I did a couple sprints during the walk and felt good. Then I came home and did some PT strength training.
I also don’t want to go to the gym and spread the cold around.
So, my hope is that I feel better in a day or two so I can get back at it. However, my career has become more demanding, so I need to be realistic about how much time I can devote to working out. I’ll need to schedule everything and try to do more short/intense workouts. The past year I have been pampered by just being able to work out when I feel like it. Really, it’s not the workout itself that takes so long, but the eating, showering, dressing, blowdrying that I have to do afterwards. It’ll all work out. I just want to stay healthy and fit, and I don’t need to work out 8 hours a day to do that.
Hopefully this will also mean that my appetite will stay in check. Last winter it got out of control with all the stuff I was doing!

I just haven’t had the time to post them. I will admit, I haven’t had the time to work out 8 hours a week, but there have been several runs, a couple bike rides, and a few strength sessions I haven’t been able to post! Hopefully soon I will be able to sit down and plug them all in here.
I’ve been busy getting ready to go to NYC, and am leaving tomorrow. I’ll be going around to some galleries, made a book to give out, have a reception on Friday, some people to meet, lots of other fun stuff and hopefully a run in Central Park.
I’ll be baaaaaaack!

My friend Wendy totally rocked the 5k this morning! She finished in 34 something, and it was her first race ever. I need to get in a 5k or two with her before she speeds up and is too fast for me.
Side note: Believe it or not, this is me (on the right) with a significant tan.

I just got back from picking up the race packet for Hospital Hill (and as they claim, they do have the best goodies in the Midwest! This is a *real* tech running tee, which I could actually wear during a run, and a visor to boot!) and decided to drive the course while I was out there. I did the 5k last year, but the course is different and I am doing the 10k.
I’ve been nervous because not only am I doing this 10k without the training I had hoped for, but I am also still a bit sore from Wednesday’s 6 miles, and tonight is my big solo opening. I will spend 6pm until 9 or 10pm standing in heels socializing. Then, I’ll try to go home and get right to sleep so I can wake up super early to head out for the race.
Going to packet pick-up, I felt really nervous, just like when I ran the 5k last year. This feeling continued as I started to drive the course. Just like during a race, I started to get into it as I was driving, and noticed a couple billboards that said things like, “Are you ready for the hill?” and “Congratulations, you conquered the hill!” and “Just 2 miles to go!” By the end of the drive, I felt a bit better. Hopefully I’ll not be so nervous going into it tomorrow.
My friend, Wendy, is running her first 5k at Hospital Hill tomorrow. I hope she really enjoys the experience, and I hope I enjoy my race, too, so that we can be happy and excited and eating pancakes together at the finish line!

I’ve determined it’s a cold. I have gone through the stages… first the throat, then the throat with a bit of sneezing and a runny nose (this is when I thought it might be allergies,) then the whole nose-like-a-faucet thing that drives me BONKERS, and now finally it’s in my chest and I am coughing and feeling weak and my head is stuffy so I have a headache.
I STILL have not gotten in my 8 mile run! I’m trying not to be frustrated, and trying to tell myself that I’ll bounce back in time to get the 8 miler in, perhaps Thursday morning, and not totally suck at the 10k I have planned for June 7th. I’m not looking to beat any world records or anything, but I do want to feel good on this run. It’s the same race as my first even 5k last year, and so I want to feel like I am celebrating when I’m out there running.
Thanks, I just had to rant about this stupid cold. I loathe being ill!

When will I get that through my head? I read a lovely article last week (did I already mention this?) about how for ‘runners,’ running is always the right thing to do: regardless of if you are tired or have had a bad day, etc., though you might try and talk yourself out of it, after you have run, you never regret it. It’s so true! So many times I tell myself, ‘it’s too hot… my stomach hurts… I’m tired…’ like I did today. But lo and behold, I went to track club, and presto-changeo! I’m not tired, my stomach is fine, and it wasn’t too warm after all! Perhaps I have energy, now, to get through the rest of the evening.
It was a busy weekend in St. Louis, and we just arrived home this afternoon. My diet was awful, and I didn’t get enough sleep. At least we did a lot of walking at the zoo.
Back to the grind now with an interview in the morning and shows coming up!

This isn’t an ultra-serious track club… it’s a small group of homeschoolers led by one of the parents, and two parents including me are participating along with our kiddos. The leading parent(s) both ran track or cross country in high school and college, I believe, so I am learning a lot here. It’s quite a different experience to run fast for short periods than the way I usually jog about town, enjoying the scenery. I could feel that my quads were being asked to work harder for more speed, but they were tired from my morning bike ride. Track club is more challenging than I thought it would be!

This is my one year running anniversary! Ironically, I didn’t run to celebrate. I did however:
1) Go to the dentist in the morning and had my first ever fillings. Spent 2 hours in the chair as they drilled and filled in all four quadrants. Yay!
2) Have a banana and a chocolate turtle frozen custard sundae for lunch. I argued that I should really stick to soft food for a while since I kept accidentally biting my cheek, and is there really anything softer than ice cream?
3) Go for a 40+ minute bike ride. In pink shorts that were perhaps too short for the bike. Ooops. Live and learn.
Yay for being physically active!
